when you wake up feeling old

a couple weeks ago i made a trip to chicago for a brief, but fab weekend of friends, food and wonderful music. it was time for the 5th ever jeff tweedy-letters to santa benefit at hotel s&s! i haven't had the time to try writing a post, but my friend over at easily fooled wrote up a lovely summary that includes some great pix.

personal asides: i stayed with my pal, allison in uptown. we got to visit only one time, when i arrived at 3am saturday morning. she had a bed all ready for me and a note out telling me where to find the good snacks in her kitchen. thanks again, allison!
i was able to have TWO meals at my fave breakfast spot, over easy, and squeeze in a trip to metropolis coffee.

location information: am sitting at gate A16 of Sacramento hairport waiting for a flight home. :)

screen door (non) up-date

my hope of hiring my carpenter neighbor to install the door has come to naught. i think i'm gonna start asking in the construction dept. at work. this has been stupid for years now.

harumph.

in other news: just ran into my pal, yuri, down at catering. he's a background actor in a couple of scenes today. bonus!
snack of note: mango flan! turkish coffee

craft on!

finished: the knit headband listed in the "now knitting" sidebar of this page.

woo!

it was an experiment, knit for my friend, jen. i would have gone for a solid color, but this cool cotton/elastic yarn came only in muted earthtones and the pink/raspberry variagated color.

i really dig it! i have enough yarn to whip one up for myself. it's been MONTHS since i've had a haircut, so i'm in the market for a headband or two.
technical bits:
the band is a strip of stockinette st with a 3 st. border on the sides. the border is made by purling on both the wrong and right side. creates kind of a horizontal rib. neat!
i just sewed the ends together in a way to make the seam flat. (i want to say i used a mattress stitch, but i think that's a sewing, not knitting term. eh. it's all mish mash of technique.)

i had been putting in some quality time on a whole cloth quilt. i'd hoped to have it done by now, but traded some sewing hours for live music in the last month. and i worked more than usual. maybe next week. ;)

ambiance: a solo jeff tweedy acoustic performance of "i'm always in love" just came on. i do love this song.
food & beer of note: al wazir, leinenkugel's amber

i've never met ruben kinkaid

i'm not one to get too star struck. most of the time. but...

i just had lunch with shirley jones.
really.
she's a guest star in the current episode of the show i'm working on. she sat down with the editorial staff and chatted with us all.

as an 8 yr old i taped up clipped pix of sean cassidy on my wall. now i am now 1 degree removed from sean and david cassidy.

O! Hollywood! what a weird town you are.

also: steve landesburg (sgt dietrich from barney miller!!) is in the ep, too. he was sitting at the next table. just seeing him put his lunch tray down made me all giddy. and last week i met joe don baker! mmmmitchell!!

ps. snax of note: turkish coffee, choc chip cookie from catering.
